What is Piles?

Piles Aka Hemorrhoids, Bawasir, Mulvyadh are swollen and enlarged veins in the rectum and the anal canal containing enlarged blood vessels in and around the rectum and the anus which is a result of an increased pressure in the anus making the veins wider and engorged with more blood than usual resulting in overlying tissue and swelling causing piles.

There are 4 stages of piles as follows:

Grade I : Piles do not prolapse, only bleeding from the rectum is there.

Grade II : Piles prolapse upon defecation, but spontaneously reduce.

Grade III : Piles prolapse upon defecation, but reduce after manipulation.

Grade IV : Piles are prolapsed and remain outside anus

Symptoms

• Itchy perianal region
• Swelling around the Anus
• Pain during bowel movements
• Bleeding during or after bowel movements
• Irritation and pain around the anus

Causes

• Chronic Constipation
• Chronic diarrhoea
• Low fiber diet
• Low intake of water
• Lifting heavy weights
• Pregnancy
• Sitting for long periods of time,in the toilet
• Straining while passing a stool.
• Being overweight or obese
